Determining Meteoroid Origins by Measurement of Deceleration Using Multi-station Radar Data

Supervisor: Dr. Peter Brown

Project Description (Abstract):

The goal of this project is to measure the deceleration and electron production of small meteoroids ablating in the atmosphere through measurement of their radar scattering properties as seen from multiple radar stations using the Canadian Meteor Orbit Radar. The purpose of this project is to use these data together with entry models to estimate the bulk density of individual meteoroids. The project involves analysis of radar meteor echo data already collected from up six stations. The project will require signal processing, applications of existing meteoroid entry models to radar data and development and interpretation of radar scattering physics.
